It began in May 1995, inspired by three mothers who each had youngsters with Down's Syndrome. They felt their children deserved the opportunity to explore arts, drama music and dance as other
children could. They decided to set up a group initially under the umbrella of the DSA meeting at the Angel Centre.
Help from the Tonbridge Lions and a grant from Children in Need secured their future. In 2000 they gained charity status which opened up many more possibilities for them. They moved to Hillview
school in 2001 in support of their community studio theatre, and gained many friends as a result.
In 2007 River Drama found a new home at the Oast Theatre where they have been since, welcomed wholeheartedly. It's such a great opportunity for the young people to get a real feel for theatre
there and the community that surrounds it.
